Big divvy for Marshall supporters as Copacabana wins at first start for stable

posted in: News

A patient drive by trainer Kyle Marshall has landed Copacabana a win in her first start for her new stable, getting home at odds of $21 for the win.

The six-year-old mare earned A$11,400 prizemoney for her first placing, in the last event at Melton.

With fixed odds of 20-1 available at the start, she wasn’t rated much of a chance by punters.

But the in-form Marshall steered the mare along the rail from the second row at the start to tuck in behind early leader Just A Bit Touchy, the $2.40 race favourite.

Marshall patiently stalked the leader over the 1720m course and then took the inside lane for the race to the finish line, going past the favourite to win by 2.4m.

On the Australian tote, Copacabana paid $14.60 for the win and $3.20 for the place. In New Zealand, Marshall supporters earned $14.30 and $4 at the TAB.
