Three-year-old filly Ruebe Starbuck has claimed her second win at home track Cranbourne with a courageous display of frontrunning.
Drawn awkwardly, trainer/driver Kyle Marshall accelerated around the field at the start, taking up the role of pacemaker.
For the first half of the 2080m race, Marshall was content to keep Ruebe Starbuck under a hold as the rest of the field tried to keep in touch.
Ruebe Starbuck reeled off a 27.9 second third quarter to put her challengers under pressure, and as the field turned for home, the gap opened up.
Though Burning Tickets and Im A Denny Too came home strongly, a tiring Ruebe Starbuck hung on to hit the line first.
From five career starts, Ruebe Starbuck now has two wins and a second, with earnings of almost A$8,000.
On the Australian tote, Ruebe Starbuck paid $2.00 for the win and $1.30 for the place. In New Zealand, Kyle Marshall Racing supporters earned $2.00 and $1.00 at the TAB.
