Hugo Maguire shows grit to get up for last stride win on home track

posted in: News

Hugo Maguire has won back-to-back races with a courageous finish in his latest start at Cambridge Raceway.

The two-year-old colt, from the Kyle Marshall Racing stables, knuckled down to get over the line first in a tight four-way finish in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Mobile Pace over 2200m.

Drawn on the second row, driver Kyle Marshall got him placed fourth on the rail during the first 800m and then positioned him outside the leader with a round to go.

Timing his run to perfection, Marshall sent the race favourite after the leader and Hugo Maguire hit the front just in time, winning by half a head, a neck and a head.

The win provided connections with $4,950, taking lifetime earnings to more than $16,000 from his five starts.

At the tote, Hugo Maguire paid $2.60 for the win and $1.30 for the place.
