KMR aiming to buy yearlings to help build new training base in Melbourne

posted in: News

Kyle Marshall Racing plan to buy two yearlings in Melbourne next month to help build the team at KMR’s new training base in Victoria.

KMR is seeking non-binding expressions of interest from those interested in taking shares of between 5% and 25% in each yearling.

The stable will soon leave its Cambridge base to set up at the Cranbourne Training Centre, in the outer south-east area of Melbourne.

The centre provides outstanding facilities including access to 3 training tracks, 2 horse walkers, a treadmill and a 24m equine pool.

About 200 race meetings a year will be easily accessible from Cranbourne, including 26 meetings at KMR’s new home track and 61 meetings at the metropolitan home of harness racing, Melton.

Plans to buy yearlings at Melbourne sales (April 2-3)

To supplement the horses moving there from New Zealand, KMR plans to attend the Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale in Melbourne on April 2-3, 2023.

Kyle Marshall says: “This is a particularly exciting part of our move as we think the buying will be great with more than 300 yearlings to be sold. Having closely followed sales results at last year’s sale and at those sales conducted across Australia this year, it is likely that there will be real value for buyers with a keen eye!”

The rewards on offer for Vicbred yearlings at the sales are compelling:

  • Vicbred yearlings are eligible for a first-win bonus of not less than $9,000 (and up to $12,000 for a “Vicbred Pure” yearling).
  • Vicbred Super Series finals for pacers at ages 2, 3 and 4 all carry prizemoney of $150,000 and are split by gender.
  • Vicbred Super Series finals for trotters at ages 2, 3 and 4 all carry prizemoney of $100,000 and are split by gender.
  • Pacing graduates of the Nutrien Sale will also be eligible to contest a gender-specific Sales Series Final of $175,000 as 2yo’s ($62,500 for trotters).

Those same yearlings will be eligible to compete in a gender-specific Sales Series Final of $100,000 as 3yo’s ($125,000 for trotters).

KMR seeks shareholders for two yearlings

Marshall says: “We plan to purchase two yearlings at the sales – one with a purchase price of up to $60,000 and the other up to $30,000.”

KMR seeks non-binding expressions of interest in 5%, 10%, 20% and 25% shares in those yearlings on the following basis:

The yearlings will be selected by Kyle Marshall on the basis of pedigree and conformation.

The purchase price paid will be inclusive of GST (if applicable) and all Vicbred and Nutrien futurity sustaining payments.

Payment in respect of 5%, 10% 20% and 25% shares can be made up to 30 days after the sale.
