Strong finish gets Wharewhiti home for his second career win

posted in: News

Wharewhiti has returned to winning form after finishing strongly to take out a midweek event at Yarra Valley.

The five-year-old gelding pulled clear of race leader See No More in the straight, with the pair more than 30m ahead of the chasers.

Champion driver Chris Alford, who has more than 8,000 career wins, kept Wharewhiti up with the fast beginners, and dropped him into second spot.

That’s where he stayed until Alford was ready to shake him up for a final dash at the leader, and run to the finish line.

The winning stake takes Wharewhiti’s career earnings to almost A$16,000, with two wins and five placings from his 18 raceday starts.

On the Australian tote, Wharewhiti paid $3.60 for the win and $1.40 for the place. In New Zealand, Marshall supporters earned $2.90 and $1.20 at the TAB.
